Migratuse Ataraxia Alabama Dance Festival

Migratuse Ataraxia is an experiential dance performance that memorializes the lives of enslaved individuals by shifting the rules of representation in antebellum domestic spaces. Audience members will follow performers through rooms at the Klein-Wallace House for vignettes reinterpreting white narratives of these spaces and then gather for a community meal and facilitated dialogue.

2018 Klein Homecoming

On October 20, 2018, some 40 persons whose ancestors were at Klein participated in a healing ceremony at the family cemetery and then shared a meal at the house.  Theoangelo Perkins, Peter Datcher and Nell Gottlieb, along with facilitator T. Marie King of Birmingham, planned and carried out the event.

Nostos Algos Exhibition

Nostos Algos: A Collaboration about Return is a site-specific group exhibition to be held in early 2020. Including works by eight U.S.-based artists, the exhibition takes the process of return to a complicated home as its subject. Curated by Laura August, Nostos Algos is the first exhibition in the space, and it engages both the house and its location from perspectives on intimacy and personal history.
